ATMOS SOUNDS: Meet Billy Bevevino

WHO IS BILLY BEVEVINO?

I am a producer, artist and DJ from the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia! My main focus as a creative is to provide uplifting experiences, whether it is through my original tracks, my DJ sets or curated events!

The songs and sets I produce are known to be eclectic, ranging from uptempo disco edits, to ukg and deep house.

Overall, I'm all about positive vibes and communities!

WE WERE INTRODUCED TO YOU WHEN YOU DJ'D AT THE HARTCOPY VOLUME 1 LAUNCH EVENT - HOW DO YOU THINK MUSIC AND SNEAKERS GO HAND AND HAND?

Sneakers (and fashion in general) are integral to our collective culture and intrinsically connected with music.

When I think of connecting footwear and music, I immediately think of signature collaborations between artists and footwear companies like Run DMC and Adidas.

Music and footwear also have this awesome ability to convey information and energy.

HARTCOPY VOLUME 1 DOCUMENTED SOME OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT SNEAKER DROPS OF THE YEAR 2021: WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 5 ALBUMS OF 2021?

This is a tough one! I'm more of an ep head since I'm addicted to house music, but there was so so so much good music released in 2021.

Every Fred Again project is incredible, including "Actual Life." TSHA released an amazing compilation project with Fabric. "Human Again" by Joy Anonymous and "Krypt. vol. 2" by Kryptogram are both albums that are on "must listen to" status for me.

For a fifth, I'll say Disclosure's Dj-kicks project is a compilation album that stands out to me even a year later!

WHAT'S YOUR GO-TO PAIR OF SNEAKERS WHEN SPINNING A GIG, AND WHY?

I only own three pairs of shoes, haha. Probably not the best answer for such a cool sneaker blog.

Every 3 to 4 months, I either get a new pair of black high-top vans or a pair of high-top blazers and wear them until they break down.

I'm mad simple with my shoes!

I have been obsessed with high-top vans since I used to skate (poorly) and would always destroy my ankles in low-top shoes.

Also remember seeing a dope photo of Eddie Vedder ripping them at lollapalooza from the early 90s/mid 2000s.

I also love to rock a pair of burks with socks on, which my girlfriend does not think is sexy.

WHEN CREATING A PLAYLIST FOR HARTCOPY, WHAT WENT INTO YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS?

I wanted to show off the funky, feel-good tracks that I love to listen to! I also wanted to the energy to be high and for people to have a smile while listening to it!

"A song for Aubrey" by Dj Streaks always puts me in a good mood and I had to include a track from the basement disco label it was released on since I have a track coming out with them this year!

I wanted to throw an old school song or two on the playlist like "The NY House Trak" and "Let The Drums Speak"! The Mighty Dub Katz are amazing!

I also wanted to show some Philly love so I included Dj Matpat's fantastic track "Face the Music"!

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS ON THE PLAYLIST, AND WHY?

"A song for Aubrey" by Dj Streaks always puts me in a good mood, and I had to include a track from the basement Discos label since I have a track coming out with them this year!

WHAT SNEAKERS ARE CURRENTLY IN YOUR ROTATION?

Right now, I'm just rocking a pair of black high-top vans! My house burned down a few months ago, so that's the only pair in my rotation right now!

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR EARLIEST SNEAKER MEMORIES?

In 6th grade, I got my first pair of "cool" sneakers, which were, in hindsight, a very uncool pair of under armor basketball shoes.

When I wore them to gym class, my teacher rubbed his dirty shoe on both of them because he heard I was bragging about them and said they were too white!

I also have a bunch of memories of rocking vans throughout the years! Especially wearing through vans high tops at music festivals like Firefly and Dirtybird campout every summer!

Thanks for having me on the blog and for having me in the store!
